| Long-term reliability an issue | Rating: 2 |
I purchased two of these headsets about one year ago. Mine has since stopped working altogether, but my wife's continues to operate without issue -- and she uses her's much more than I do. Curious.
Anyway, it is a nice headset with absolutely the best charger/case design that I have ever seen, but if you are looking for long-term use, you might want to look elsewhere. Of course, most people don't keep their phones too long these days and they cost much more than this little headset. |
| Great headset, but FATAL design flaw | Rating: 1 |
I have owned 2 of these headsets since May 2005. Sound quality is excellent. Reliability is excellent. Fit on ear is excellent (better than the many others I have tried). Features are excellent. Then why have I owned 2 in the last 6 months?
There is a FATAL design flaw which prevents me from recommending this headset. The very thing that makes this headset so comfortable (the spring loaded earpiece), is the very reason that I will be trying to return my 2nd headset. On both headsets, the earpiece broke in exactly the same spot. The first one lasted about 2 months. The 2nd one lasted about 4 months. It can't be replaced or repaired, which means I now have 2 expensive paperweights. The first time they replaced it for free. I'll try again, but since its been several months, I'm not sure if they will replace again. Regardless, what good is an excellent fitting, excellent sounding headset, if the earpiece breaks. I have tried wearing it with the piece broken off, but it is not possible.
Unless you are VERY gentle with this headset, you probably want to steer clear and go with a different manufacturer and design that is not so fragile. |
| A Bluetooth headset that really works | Rating: 5 |
I have a Motorola Razr phone and so I thought that a Motorola Bluetooth headset would perform the best with my phone... wrong. I returned first one and then another HS820 model because of intermittent crackling and poor voice quality reported by those I spoke with on the phone. I then tried the HS850, the latest and greatest, and the results were similar. This one also had a lower maximum earpiece volume than the HS820s. These worked OK in a quiet room, but not in any other space. Even just walking outside reduced the sound quality for the person on the other end of my call.
Frankly, I don't see how all of these compact headsets, with the mouthpiece near the ear and up against the cheek, can possibly perform all that well.
After reading mostly very positive reviews on several sites for the Logitech Mobile Pro, I decided to give it a shot... I'm very glad I did. What a difference! This is not the smallest headset, but it is the most sensible. It has an adjustable boom that places the mike much closer to the mouth. It also claims noise canceling technology and in my experience it actually works... not perfect, but pretty darn well.
One of the things that reveals the sound quality is that, so far, when I use the voice recognition dialing feature of the Razr, it has never failed to recognize the name I speak into it. With the three Motorola units I returned, I often needed to repeat the name several times before it would dial. Clearly, the microphone works much better. It may be the position closer to the mouth, or simply a better pickup, or both... but it works very well.
People on the other end of my calls have been very pleased with the sound quality, even in my car which is a noisy Honda CR-V. They can hear some background sound, but the important thing is that they can easily understand what I'm saying and the background is not overwhelming.
The earpiece volume is the loudest of all the units I tried, although I do need to press it to my ear when in a noisy outdoor space... it's to be expected.
The ear clip is unusual and not as comfortable as others, but it's not bad and it holds very well. The more I use it the less it bothers me. One very nice thing about the ear mount is that I can clip the unit to my belt when not in use.
I can't stress enough how far superior the sound of this headset is to the others I tried. I would recommend it to anybody.
